As a social worker not only do we serve many roles at work we also serve in many roles at home. In this episode we discuss caregiving on a personal level. Here are some of the tips and description of the role of the care giver.

Roles of a Caregiver

  • Assisting the cared person with toiletry activities, including bathing, exercising, dressing, and eating.
  • Providing general care such as administering medications and making and taking them to appointments.
  • Helping the cared-for persons to make choices based on available alternatives.
  • Supporting their person in making independent decisions.
  • Managing appointments and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  • Offering companionship, emotional support, and supervising their actions.
  • Advising the cared persons’ loved ones and family members on how to connect with and provide support and encouragement.

THINGS YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A CAREGIVER: 

  1. Needs Of The Elderly Or Disabled Adult To Be Cared For In Their Home. Knowing The Person's Needs Beforehand  Is So Important 
  2. Financial Demands Of The Caregivers And Caretakers. Taking Care Of An Older Loved One Can Be Demanding, Which May Influence How Much The Care May Cost. 
  3. Being A Care Taker Sometimes Means Making That Choice To Place Your Loved One In A Facility

TIPS FOR THE CAREGIVER: 

  • HAVE A SUPPORT TEAM
  • BE SURE TO REST
  • FOLLOW UP WITH RESOURCES THAT YOU ARE GIVEN
  • KNOW YOUR LIMITS
